NATURE CENTER HAS SUCCESSFUL BENEFIT DINNER -
THANKS TO ITS GRACIOUS DONORS AND ATTENDEES!
On August 28th, over 130 supporters of the White Mountain Nature Center gathered for its 4th Annual Benefit Dinner, held at the Hon-Dah Convention Center. The evening event was a perfect mix of entertainment, good food and spirits, with spirited fundraising in support of the Nature Center’s mission and programs. Overseas Aircraft Support, Inc. was the event Grand Sponsor, and their gracious guests set the stage for both the evening’s fun and fundraising! Jineane Ford-Ross served masterfully in her perennial role as the master of ceremonies. Local band Fat Chance entertained guests with their outstanding mix of music, while Nature Center photographer Lloyd Pentecost’s beautiful slideshow on the Nature Center’s Summer of Discovery gave guests a taste of highlights of 10 programs held this summer.
The benefit proved to be one of the most successful yet for the Nature Center, with funds raised from a combination of bucket raffles, a highly competitive silent auction with a wide array of merchandise, and live auctions of a beautiful osprey nest metal art piece donated by Moseman’s Metalwerks, artwork, and a guided elk bugling trip to view and photograph elk in October. The highlight of the evening however, was the decadent dessert auction (or was that an auction of decadent desserts?), with the “spoils” shared among attendees sitting at the many tables. The success of the benefit is attributable to the many gracious donations made by area businesses of merchandise and event attendees, all who see the vision of what a nature center could do for the White Mountains.

The Nature Center has already scheduled next year’s benefit dinner – September 11, 2010. So mark your calendars and plan on making that event even more successful than this year’s!
The Nature Center is located at 425 S. Woodland Road in Pinetop-Lakeside, between Big Springs Environmental Study Area and Mountain Meadow Recreation Complex.
