The White Mountain Wildlife and Nature Center to Host Project WET Program
Are you concerned about clean water and the water issues that our community may face in the future? Then mark your calendar for Saturday May 15th and bring your friends to the Show Low Public Library at 1:00 pm to hear how Project WET can help educate White Mountain citizens about water resources and water conservation.
Project WET (Water Education for Teachers) is an award-winning nonprofit water education program and publisher. Established in 1984 by the South Dakota State Water Commission, the program facilitates and promotes awareness, appreciation, knowledge and stewardship of water resources through dissemination of classroom-ready teaching aids and the establishment of internationally sponsored Project WET programs. Project WET is committed to global water education that is implemented at the community level, and the Project’s mission is to reach children, parents, educators and communities with water education.
Arizona Project WET works with the Project WET Foundation to develop water-related lessons that are relevant to Arizona’s unique water story. Water Festivals are conducted throughout the state and feature one or two of the curriculum guides and explores the science, history and/or mathematics of each concept through varied methodologies that activate multiple learning styles. All WET curricula have been correlated to the Arizona Standards for Education.
Kerry Schwartz, Director of Arizona Project WET at the University of Arizona, will be the featured speaker at the May 15th program, sponsored by the White Mountain Wildlife and Nature Center. Kerry’s presentation will highlight some of the best activities from the Project WET curriculum. She will also inform interested audience members of what we can do to sponsor a Project WET Water Festival in our community. This presentation is FREE and open to the public.
Immediately following the Project WET presentation, the White Mountain Wildlife and Nature Center will hold the monthly board meeting. All are invited to attend and meet the board of directors and learn about our exciting summer program series and membership benefits. For more information please visit our web site www.wmnature.org.
