SUSTAINABLE LANDSCAPING FOR WILDLIFE
At 10:00am on Saturday, July 17th, The WMNC will be presenting programs on creating backyard habitats that will attract more wildlife, including hummingbirds and butterflies. Whether you are a novice or a long time gardener, this is a great opportunity to get any questions answered and start making your yard a place to enjoy wildlife.
Sue Sitko, Regional Director for the Nature Conservancy, is a wildlife biologist and gardening enthusiast. Sue will discuss the biology and science behind successful gardening for wildlife by focusing on the elements of habitat and how these elements relate to gardening and the attraction of wildlife. Sue will also share an enjoyable photo presentation and provide useful handouts.
Local Master Gardeners will be on hand to discuss and demonstrate gardening techniques that can help in creating a more successful garden. They will also have various plants on display that are well suited to growing in this area and that will attract more wildlife to your yard.
Representatives from Continuous Rain Gutters will be demonstrating rainwater harvesting techniques and systems for sustainable and efficient water delivery systems for irrigation.
The programs will take place at the Nature Center's new event pavillion Seating is limited so be sure to bring your favorite lawn chair.
The Nature Center is located at 425 S. Woodland Road in Pinetop-Lakeside, between Big Springs Environmental Study Area and Mountain Meadow Recreation Complex.
